Letter from Alfred

Letter written from the Chateau du Masgelier par Grand Bourg (Creuse), France (children's refuge run by th Jewish children's rescue organization OSE—acronym for "Oeuvre de Secours aux Enfants" i.e. Children's Help Organization), dated November 2 (or 6), 1942:

Dear tante Alma,

How are you? We are very well. I was very worried at not having had any news from you. I drew the castle as well as I could. I go to school here. We had a letter from Issoudun. Uncle Jacques is soon going to come see us. We passed the medical exam about three weeks ago. They didn't tell us when we would leave. Write to me where Papa and Mama are because I would like to know where they are … I really would like to write to Ste. Lizaigne but I know I shouldn't. I was very embarassed because I wanted to write to you and, since I knew that you don't know French I wanted to write in German but I make a lot of mistakes and I would have been ashamed. Dear aunt, I send you a big kiss and wish you "Good Luck."

Yours,

Alfred
